I finally moved my corner seating tonight to give the starboard engine a good once over. I need all new hoses. The majority of the cooling hoses look like 2" O.D. (using a tape measure). Is that correct? Any preferred brands or ones to stay away from?
Looks like the heat exhanger hoses are slightly smaller (1.5" O.D.)
I'm also wondering what size/type the clear fuel line that goes from the pump up to the carb. I've never seen "clear" fuel line before, looks to be about 3/8" O.D. Mine is hard as a rock so I want to replace that right away. If I can get that at auto parts store, even better.
What about the transmission cooler lines? Do I need to worry about changing those? Those have threaded fittings.
Finally, my throttle is getting hung up so that the idle stays higher than it should. Is that typically an issue with the cable or the carbs? My surveyor suggested adding carb return springs which I did but it's still, more so on the port engine. I lubed the engine room end of the cable, haven't done it at the helm yet.
If I'm in the engine room I can manually pull it back down to where it should be. Thinking as I'm typing this.... could it be an adjustment on the linkage? Maybe I'm pulling the throttle (at the helm) past where it wants to go when I pull the cable back in the engine room?

could be the throttle cable requires adjustment.
Even though it's all the way down, it may be holding some throttle on the carb.

P.S. get some spare hoses and keepthem on board. Make sure you have several feet of hose.

All hoses go by the ID not The OD . The clear hose from your fuel pump tp the carb is not a fuel line (or better not be) it is a vent hose you should have a metal line from the fuel pump to the carb.

doesn't fuel flow through the vent hose if the FP is bad?
I thought I read that somewhere?
basically, if you DO see fuel in the line it's an indication that the fuel pump is bad/going bad.
I think I'll just replace it with black fuel line hose for now. I'm not sure if there's any fuel inside, I didn't want to risk pulling it off and not getting it back on. There are no clamps, it's just pressed onto each end.
Regarding the other hoses, I was hoping my OD measurements would translate into the correct ID. I just need to pull some off and see.

Yes if you see fuel in the hose the pump is bad .stay with the clear line if you can you would have no way to tell if the pump started to leak with black hose. I belive you can get the clear hose at small engine shops.
the OD can vary from brand to brand and type of hose . a lot of hoses are marked with the ID so look for that .

A blown hose can make for a bad day on the water.
A badmanifold/riser can blow an engine.
You might want to focus THERE first, and replace the related hoses at the same time.
This is the FIRST THING anyone buying a used powerboat should check after gtting her home.

I think the hoses on the trans oil cooler with the threads are the trans oil lines. I have always used the OE hose that is a little yellow but see-thru. It is made to turn black when it comes in contact with fuel.... Not that you won't already know that something is wrong.BobCT wrote:I thought I read that somewhere?

If you do use the black hose you will still know as soon as a diaphragm goes bad as it will flood the carb with fuel and the engine will run very poorly.
