DIP STICK

Post by larglo »

Hi all,

The dip stick, tube, I guess you would call it, has come out of it's proper place. I have stuck it back into the hole it came from on the side of the engine. (318 Chysler, on my F25) It still seem very loose and flops around and will come out easly.
Is there some kind of rubber "o" ring that should be in there also, a seal, so to speak? There is also no support bracket? I have looked at as many pictures of the 318 as I can find, and see the dip stick on the front side of the engine, but can't see how it is mounted.

If I have explained this in a proper way,,,,,does anyone know what I can do to keep the dip stick tube from coming out from the engine.
I am concerned of oil coming from the hole that is left when the tube comes out and perhaps burning the engine up from lack of oil.

Thanks for any help or advice on this.

The upper end of the dipstick should be supported by a bracket that goes to a nut on the exhaust manifold. Pick one that seems in the right position and make a bracket that wraps around the top of dipstick outer case and hold it in place with that nut. This bracket should hold it in place so it does not come away from the pan.
They are often loose due to the extra length required on marine engines, but should not leak when held in position by the upper bracket.

there should also be an o-ring around the dipstick tube. the tube itself should push in kinda hard with the o-ring on it.
