Solar panels...

Post by Paul - SW Ontario »

This set up works great for us.

Keeps two house batteries charged for use of valance leds, cabin lights, satellite radio / cd player, 4 speaker system, small water pump for sinks, night-time nav. light, and other 12 volt accessories.

Two isolated starter batteries fed via alternator.

We don't have shore power at our slip (though our boat does)

Simply don't worry about power for the summer.

Paul, Would you mind posting pictures of the entire Solar Panel/contoller/inverter, etc... set up. It would be a big help to see exactly how you did it. Thanks, JC

Paul, where did you get the enclosure for your boat, was it expensive and how long will the material hold up to the sun?

Had it made locally (Woodstock, ON.) by a gent named Harry Roberts, owner of Oxford Marine & Trim

Cost... $2300 CA, including all of the design and install of the supports

Made of Sunbrella...hoping it lasts 8 years or so of our spring, summer, fall boating season.

5 years so far...only area of concern is the screening is getting brittle in a couple of spots.
