transport for 1978 F-36

Hello;
Im new to the forum but have been watching it for some time now. Im in the process of buying a 1978 F-36 and looking for a transport company to move the old girl from Deltaville VA. to Eufaula Alabama. Does anybody know any transport companies around the deltaville area? As Im not a wealthy guy money is alway`s an issue. Im trying to decide if bringing her down the ICW and across the Trans. Florida waterway then back up the west coast of Florida to Appalachicola is practical. Twin 454`s mean lot`s of fuel, overnight marina fees, possible groundings and break-downs...But would it not be a heck of a shakedown cruise? Any input?

I don't know of any transport companies, but a year ago I moved my new purchase a total of 678nm to her new home. That is not anywhere near the length of trip you are talking about, but I wouldn't trade that trip for anything. I learned so much about my new Trojan and how she handles in all kinds of weather and sea conditions. If you can afford it and have the time, the trip would be the most fun and teach you a lot about your boat.

Rick, Welcolm. Have you calculated the fuel cost for the trip? You may be shocked. I have seen F36's sell for less! My rough calculation may be off. Someone else on this forum may know better. 454's are also hard on fuel. I'm thinking 40 gals per hour @ 18-24 knots??? would be my guess. Jimbo36.

yep about that, but your not going to do the icw at 20 knots more like hull speed 8 knots but it will back your piggy bank. Do a search on here and you'll find the fuel burn for your boat. and why over night at a dock ? Swing on the hook. All you need is gas,water,and pump out and you'll stop and fill her up everyday.

go to UShip and get bids. You will have to prepare it or have the marina do it. If it is Flybridge height is a problem. Look into taking the bridge down. I have had two boats moved and we had to take bridge down and was able to store them on the bow of the boat. They have trailers that will haul the boat with only about 1 foot road to keel clearance so you can measure yours and see where you are.
