Generator Issue

Post by jlyons »

Recently purchases 79 F-32 with a 6.5Kw onan generator. Was working great for the first few days and then all of a sudden wouldn't start. After talking with some friends they said that sometimes the selenoid on the side of the carb (round piece with wires going to it) that opens and shuts off the fuel will sometimes stick. I notice when checking this that when I touched it, it was very hot. Disconnected the battery cables and after awhile it cooled off. Connected the battery cables again and didn't touch anything to see if it got hot again and it did. Is this a sign that the selenoid is bad? Generator just turns over and won't hit a lick.

Check the electric fuel pump - it is not activated until the start button is pushed also power is lost when the starter button is released unless the gen starts

The round thing with wires going to it is the electric choke it is supposed to get hot then when the gen starts, air is pulled across the heating element to cool it
