everything you need is still avaliable. if the helm is leaking they sell seal kits. search southern charm through http://boaterscatalog.com/ all exploded diagrams and "how to" is on the site.
I recently sent my helm into them (southern charm) and had them do the work.

My helm seal was leaking.
Chose to be proactive and replaced the helm & ram with 2 line hydraulic Teleflex system.
This eliminates the entire issue of keeping a bicycle pump onboard.
One less item to do maintenance on

do you guys have Hynautic units?
I just rebuilt my H50 last week, kit is available at Boatfix for about $35 delivered.
Scott Gardner did a write-up on BoaterEd if you need it.
If you have H50's I'll chime in w/more detail.

I just rebuilt two of them. Very simple repair just make sure you index the rear assembly correctly. I believe you have a Hynautic pump. Parts available at

RWS if you have old pump and ram I could use them.

I have the old three line Hynautic hydraulic steering with the bicycle pump you spoke of (that you replaced) on a recent post. I had my helm resealed and got a new relief valve and still seem to lose air pressure. The fluid level never seems to go down (which is great) so i assume the leak is on the air resevoir bicycle pump valve or something. However, I still gotta fill it up with air everytime I'm going out. Can't find any leaking with a bubble leak finder solution.
Did you suffer from the same problems, leading you to change the steering system?
Thanks!

Dave,
We had a decent helm leak combined with the periodic ritual of the bicycle pump.
I couldn't find the rebuild kits at the time and chose to replace with the Hynautic 3 line air over hydraulic system with the 2 line airless system.
Scott and several others have since rebuilt thiers with great results and shared the experience with us.

I found a little more information. Here is a link to an article where someone successfuly repaired their Syten pump. Reading the article, it looks like the helm pumps were not made to be readily serviceable. loosk a little harder to disassemble than the Hynautic.
From the little research I did, it looks like the system used non-standard fittings which may make it difficult
http://home.comcast.net/~e29290/syten%2 ... repair.pdf
It may be better to replace the helm pump. If the rest of the system is fine than it may not be that expensive (at least for a boat repair)
Here is a link for 5/16 fittings. May be useful
http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=81276F
Loosk like the pumps are about $350-$380 and the back mount kit about $35
