Distributor, Problem

Post by Rodman »

ford 351, I removed the cap to replace it and the rotor button today, I found a problem. There is a black piece of plastic that the button sits in and it had bunch of magnets all in the cap. I tried to go to local auto parts but they could not find this. I will post photos any one have ideal what its called?
I am thinking this may of been part of my problem Sunday also.

some electronic ignition conversions used magnets, (Hall effect) others used optics.

Time to do some research and then determine the best direction to take.

Electronic ignition. Can you check out your engine specs for the boat or was the engine a replacement for the original. Check with Beacon.

When I was building sandrails several years ago some of the guys were using that type of electronic ignition and many didn't last long for the same reason. After seeing that happen many of us went to "Perlux igniter" drop-in module and never had another problem. My boat runs well with points but when I get a chance I am going to get the Perlux for my 351's.
