Rodman,
After completly disassembling the carb be sure that all of the passages, jets, emulsion tubes, etc are clear of dirt, gum or varnish. I usually soak the components in laquor thinner. Then blow it out with compressed air. Unfortunately if the carb is painted it will remove that also. (be sure to wear rubber gloves and safety glasses)
Once the parts are dry, re-assemble with the new kit. Turn your idle jets in until they bottom lightly then back them out 1 1/2 turns. This is a good starting point to get the engine running, then you can adjust them after the engine warms up.
This would also be a goodtime for a new filter.
Hope this helps

a small engine guy friend of mine recommended soaking in denatured alcohol let it sit for a day or so and it is far less abusive than lacquer thinner

I'm with Paul, carb cleaner works great and eats every thing in there.

When you say right.... what do you mean? The big dia or the reduced one from eBay?Rodman wrote:prop is right,alexander38 wrote:do ever get the prop right ? or bottom smooth ?
If you are still at the large dia: which I think is oversized for your boat then ...Maybe you should look at those F31 props put on here earlier.
I would like to see some max rpm numbers and low plane speed and rpm to see if the prop is really correct.

I am using the large one. I will get some numbers together this weekend. I do believe the reason the RPM that was not there was fault of the carburetor. It was only opening up on two barrels not four. Further testing this weekend will tell. I plan on staying out on the river from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon.

What carbs do you have? The ethanol EATS seals with the older carb rebuild kits.
"They" (mfgrs of carb rebuild kits) are on generation 4 of the "Viton Ethanol Safe Seals" now. I don't have much confidence myself, but Cliff's Performance center in Ohio swears these are what they use for Alcohol carb'd race cars ... so we'll see ... plan to rebuild the Qjet on my 26'/454 this week and run next weekend. Odd - my old Corvette has a Qjet (I rebuilt about 12-13 years ago) , and I never have ethanol problems with it ...
Paul - you're a certified master mechanic - whats the deal?
