update to the update: the shower drain/pump worked this moring...but not like it is supposed to it seems.
started out great, but after a few minutes, it seemed to stop draining. i turned the pump off, then back on, and it sucked it out again, BUT a lot slower than it had been.
i've seen the replies indicating slow pumps...pumps needing a boost, so to speak, etc. so my question is, should i just replace the pump? i spend a LOT of time on the boat, and i don't want to fool with tinkering with the shower every bloody morning. if i were to do that, i'd have to become a MIDGET to fit into the space under the galley sink to get the pump to SUCK the water out like it should, or having to BLOW air into the system all the time (that was for mtp and peter).
how expensive would it be to replace the pump? does it have to be the same type, or will any boat sump pump do the trick?
On my 32, I don't have a pump and pan set-up. Mine drained into the bilge and would back up-previous owner did something with the original set-up, what, I don't know...
I ran a new hose from the drain, under galley floor, under the fridge where it meets the drain hose, between the stringers, installed a new pump with filter. When using the shower, the pump runs and discharges water out.
So far, so good.

Tuck: you just made my day..... : new pump 130-175 $ : would PULL it out,take it apart: see if it's corroded: ( replaced my fresh water pump 2 yrs ago for that reason... )
I had problem with my fresh water wash down pump last year just had to take apart clean and reseal. This is same pump as my shower and you can buy a rebuilding kit for them. If you buy a new pump just make sure it's self-priming and can run dry.

i know you dont want to hear it but i still think a verification of the condition of the drain hose and connections all the way to the shower drain from the pump are in order. here is a link to a repair kit instead of buying a whole brand new pump. you could rebuild it very easily and save some money if you are convinced its the pump. i understand about not getting access because of the floor but the hose could still be sucking air and losing prime. if it is operating as it should the pump will pick up the water and prime itself without any help to get it started. a air leak at a fitting or inline somewhere will cause it not to work . check the make and model on the label of the pump and see if it is this model. if you want i will help you rebuild it when or if you want to get the rebuild kit. if its the right pump kit google the part number and should be able to get a good price but it will be around $45.
it might be worth spending the $45 or so for a rebuild kit rather than messing up the floor but...
could also open up the current pump and inspect the diaphragm for holes or debris that could be caught in it before doing anything .
I know I mentioned it before but disconnect the pump put a hose on it to a bucket of water turn on the pump and check the flow this will insure it's the pump. I would do this before tearing into the floor. Could save you a lot of aggravation.

Mine must have been moved before I got the boat because it is mounted on the forward engine room bulkhead in between the engines and is a diaphram pump good for pumping out chunks.

if you have chunks that need to be put overboard coming from your shower, i would suggest that you SHOWER MORE OFTEN.
One of my fishing buddies gets seasick real easy but he keeps on fishing so when we're out in big water I tell him to puke overboard for chum but sometimes he doesn't get that far. chunks anyone?
Have a friend here who goes green as soon as we clear the jetties at 5am. 50-70 mile run to the, troll for 6 hours - and he's green the whole time. Only gets better when hes reeling in fish - amazing what Dolphins, Sails, Wahoo & Kings (occasional Marlin) can do for you!
