Hi, I'm in the process of doing all my engine maintenance and I can't find the pencil zincs on the heat exchanger. They are not where the diagrams show them (Near the end on top of the HX). I accidentally pulled the AF drain plug looking for it (doh)
I found the U-Cooler zincs but is it possible the HX doesn't have them?

Note The boat does have a good bnding wire system to the divers plate in the back. Could that be a substitute?

I did those a few months ago....
they were straight down (from the bottom) on each end of the h/e. Right side facing the front of each engine. Just a few inches from the end cap. I should have the part # if you need it.
Don't be surprised if you don't see anything, the guy before me never changed them, nothing left.

OK, I may have solved the mystery. It appears that when the Prevous Owner had the dripless shaft seals installed, the mechanic used the Zinc nounting hole as a tap off point to feed water to the seals.
Now, should I leave it that way? I replaced my U-Cooler zincs, they lasted almost two years and were just a little over half gone.

not an emergency but I would replace them....
the h/e's are expensive and the bonding system doesn't help you here. If it was the u-cooler, I would leave as is. Some guys don't even use zincs in the coolers because they tend to break apart and clog up.
I'm sure you can easily tap into one of the 1.25" heater hoses instead.
