freshwater tank additives?

Post by chauzer »

hello boys!!!! what'd i miss? been gone for the last couple months working down south (blah!). okay, down to business, the freshwater tank and lines have been dry for awhile and my assumption is the water i put in there now will smell a little rotten, so, is there anything you guys add to make it smell better?

Same here - bleach ... and we do NOT drink from these tanks.

We use bleach in our pool most of the time- then other chemicals to balance it ... bleach works great.

I agree with the bleach, we always keep a little in the tank. And treat as if it's water from Mexico. Unless you want Monazuma's revenge and your system cleaned out.

Fresh water tanks

Post by Rich Schwochow »

An old Salt from years ago told me to use cheep vodka. Every spring i fill about 3 gal. fresh water, and 1 fifth of the cheepest vodka on the market. I run it through everything but the hot water tank. It leaves no taste or smell after that. Remember, bleach is a corrosive, if you use it, stay out of the hot water tank.

so, Rich-

in a 30 gal freshwater tank it would be 29 gals of vodka and 1 gal of water and some old salt.

Here is the procedure I have used each year. Bleach is good in these small quantities.
