F26 Oil

Post by Rodman »

I was wondering do I have to add more oil or the regular amount of oil that a car Ford 351 takes? I want to change the oil in my boat before I take her out this weekend. Also this may sound dumb, but Ill ask anyway, What is the deference between regular Ford 351 and a marina Ford 351. They say dumb question is one that is not asked.

And they have a marine alternator. I think that is important for some reason. Oh yeah, I remember the guys said you might BLOW YOURSELF UP if you used a Car Alternator. If not for yourself, man, think of your Dog. Or Wowzer's penguin.

Head gaskits , many times forged pistons insted of cast pistons cam can be diffrent and of course alt /starter and carb

they use diffrent pans so it will take 5-7 qts of oil .BTW I have used 15w-40 oil in all my boats for years gas and diesel

rodman, To makes things more complicated, ford built 2 351 CID engines.
The Cleveland, a high performance block ( remember the BOSS Mustang :P ) and the Windsor, more of a work horse often used in trucks and marine. As stated, the pan is differant than in a vehicle as the engine sits on a wider angle/degree when installed in your boat, therefore, a higher oil capacity is necessary. jimbo36

The Cleveland also was used in trucks and was made in low HP ratings also .Very rare in marine use ( a few small builders used them ) . The 351 winsor is a great boat engine IMO.
