Very Happy Ending

Some may remember that when I bought my Trojan I posted a topic saying I was given two separate titles to the boat with two different hull numbers - the original Trojan number and a hull number issued by the state of Michigan. The state of Michigan issued a Michigan hull number because they said that when they switched over to an all digital database in the BMV, they discovered that there were two Trojan boats with the same hull number. Their solution was to issue a Michigan hull number for each boat and the owners were supposed to surrender the original title with the Trojan hull number.

The owner of my boat, however, kept the title and gave it to me, fully executed, when I purchased the boat. I live in Indiana and this state requires that all new vehicles of any sort have a police officer verify the VIN for the vehicle before they will allow it to be titled and registered. I showed him both titles and he checked and found both hull numbers on my stern. He then went inside the vessel and looked on the electrical panel and found the Trojan hull number there also. He said that had Michigan taken this verification step the mess could have been straightened out years ago. He signed-off on the Trojan hull number and I went to get my title transferred and the new registration numbers about a week ago.

Wow - what a surprise to find out that when the BMV worker entered the Trojan hull number into the computer that a message popped up and said that my Trojan had been originally titled in Indiana and its first owner lived in Indiana. They even had the original purchase price for the boat when it was brand new. That removed any doubt that my original title and registration was legitimate.

So my Trojan is now properly registered with its rightful hull number. Call me crazy, or anal, or whatever, but I didn't want my Trojan being registered with anything other than its original hull number.
