windshield washer - solenoid
have any of you guys replaced this? I'm pretty sure mine is bad and forced me to shut off the fresh water pump because it wouldn't stop spraying.
I finally went to Lowe's and installed a shut off valve in the line going up to the soleniod. BTW, on the mid cabin that line is behind the counter trash can in the galley.
I would strongly recommend installing shut off valves in strategic locations. If I was somewhere on the hook when this happened, I would have been screwed. I tried a bunch of different vacuum caps at both the washers and the solenoid but they wouldn't stay on. There was no way to stop the flow with what I had onboard.
I sent a pic to Bob but I'm sure he's got bigger things going on this time of the year. The solenoid (I think that's what it is) looks like it says "EEMCO" on the side along with 12V.

Windshield washer on a boat... that's a first for me.
Were it mine I would remove it, one more thing to break.... I can't see why I would have a dirty windshield without rain or spray to help remove it.

Look for it on the 32, under the sink in the head. It runs off the fresh water line. You can't miss it.ready123 wrote:Windshield washer on a boat... that's a first for me.

Edit: Michael, yours may not have one. They were standard on all Trojan models, 30' and over, starting in 1980.

Jamie,
being 1978 it does not have one saving me the effort of removing it.

WS washers are becoming more and more popular on larger pleasure craft. Typically, they`re plumbed off the fresh water system under the galley sink where they also install a shut-off valve. But some systems do have a reservoir bottle. There are a few companies making these now for pleasure craft. Vetus is one of them but I suspect any of the 12 volt solenoids made for this purpose would work. Perhaps a Google search would help.

The solenoid for our system is located on the back side of the forward shower stall. It you go into the area that houses the washer and dryer and look up to your left you will see it.bobg wrote:Jerry,Jerry wrote:I have them also... which does not make a lot of sense as I have a bridge boat without a lower station.
Where is it on your boat? I haven't seen one on mine. Do you have wipers also? I have mounts for wipers but none there.
I also have the wiper motors but no wipers. They must have just put everything on not knowing if the hulls were going to be aft cabin models or convertibles.
