Engine sound proofing

Post by shawzy44 »

Hi,

The Rumset is running better than she ever has. The downside to that is at WOT she is LOUD!

Any ideas on how to make her a quite down a bit?

Does anyone use Engine Soundproofing or put the exaust down under the waterline ect?

Any ideas??

Thanks!
Kevin

Kevin,
I replaced the deck on my F-26 about 15yrs ago with fiberglass over 1/2" Marine ply finished with Awlgrip. Underway it was loud, but not much different from the original deck.
About two years ago I spoke with a representative from Soundown and with his help purchased a kit for my application. They were very helpful. The Material from the kit is 1 1/2" thick, has a rubber material in the core. You use a spray adhesive and also mechanical fasteners to attach it to the bottom of the deck. I covered the three hatches across the engine compartment, the hatch that covers my fuel tank and my rudder access hatch. I had it all done in one weekend.
For the finished product I can't be happier, it gives the deck a more solid feel. At the dock, all I hear is my exhaust. Underway I don't have as much vibration on the deck and it is quieter. But, I do have 4" exhaust and you are right on top of the engine. It is no where near as loud as before, there is noise but the tone is not as annoying. I would do it again. When I get down to the boat on Fri I'll take some pictures for you.

I have down tubes on mine. They are made from rubber exhaust hose, and fastened to the exhaust thru- hulls. They help with the fumes also. There are pic's of them on my web site. http://www.dreamer.talkspot.com/uploads ... tering.jpg

Dreamer, nice simple addition.
However at least on my boat and up on plane, those tubes, judging from the picture, would still be out of the water. Perhaps while slow cruising it may be fine.

Sorry alexander38, There maybe a better shot of them on my web site. I really like them for fishing, no fumes.

No you really can't. That is the major down fall. I change my impellers every 2 years. just for that reason
