pull the bottle and weigh it, to see if it's still full.

have your local fire extinguisher guy come out and check it 1-2 times a year, it doesn't cost much and you'll have the peace of mind that an expert has checked and recertified it.

I can agree with you on that. but it's getting hard in some places to get someone to mess with Halon. They want to sell you the new best thing. Up here I've called 4 of them and they won't mess with me. So I just fell by on the Navy PM System, look for rust, fusible link and weight.

no fight from me on that, seen it snuff a diesel engine and switch board fire on a tin-can I was on.

My Tri-cabin has a halon system and I do what Tony does - just weigh it.

Ditto to that. I check weight and beginning of each season, and also the little dial gauge (which I don't trust). So far, no weight loss in over 8-9 years since I installed it. It's also wired into a detector that will glow red if it discharges when I'm not around....which may be a good thing anyway....I've seen a few boat fires in my time......something I'd like me and my family to miss.

I have one as well

mine is original to the boat (1988) and I called Xintex who suggested I go to the Post office since they have certified scales.

Mine was within the spec so I left it at that. I also have the LED indicator at the helm.

I am looking at this for my Tri-Cabin, where did you install it? How many?

One per side?

With the engines under the burths its tough to figure should i put one large bottle in the shared space along the transome or should i have one smaller bottle on each side forward of the engines mounted on the front of the burths?

Let me know, very interested in this.

My tri-cabin has one in each engine space, not 100% sure thats original, but it makes a little better sense to have them directly in the "engine room" then in the space behind them. imo
