New Trojan Owner and Problems

Post by brigator »

Hey Everyone,

Well I am the proud new owner of a 1979 F32. I took her out for a drive after the sea trial and both engines fell apart. The inside of the block rusted through. Mechanic says they can not be rebuilt. I have owner the boat for 3 days.

What do you guys think? Repower, dump the whole thing or part it out? Any one want to buy a really cheap Trojan :)

Ya 9,000. At the dock we ran the engines, generator, the AC all electronics. All worked. I started the journey home and we running at cruise (3000 rpms) the engines started smoking inside the boat and smelling real bad. Sea Tow took us in. I have til this weekend to do something with the boat. Mechanic doesnt want it sitting for long. Any offers? http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/boa/1807716657.html

Unless you had the seacocks turned off and cooked them by starving them of water, I doubt the previous owner would not have known of impending issues - especially if both blew at the same time. Don't you have any protection down there from laws around 'disclosure'?

As far as what to do : repowering is probably $10K, so the question would be -- what's the rest of the boat worth, and what condition are the electronics, wiring, hull, etc.. really in? Sounds like you didn't have a survey or mechanical inspection done. Is it worth spending a couple of hundred bucks to find out what you really bought?

First of all, welcome to the forum.

Sorry about your situation and I would think that there are some sort of laws governing that. I seem to remember that there used to be a three-day law where whatever you purchased could be returned within three days.

wowzers! sorry to hear about your start of owning a trojan!

i've got a couple of points to make here, so hang in there with me.

first, trojans are GREAT boats. i've had mine for two years now, and LOVE it. don't let your experience turn you off on trojans.

secondly, check with your local BBB, or call an attorney, and simply ask if you have a time period to demand some type of remedy from the seller. also, did you pay with check, cashiers' check? cash? if you paid with a check (don't laugh, people do it), you may consider stopping payment.

as has already been pointed out to you in a previous reply, repower will be about 10k. if the rest of the boat is in good shape, it'd be worth it, imho.

keep us advised. i'd like to know how this turns out.
