It was a quiet day on Lake Calumet...

Post by David Kane »

...when a fisherman caught the 1st asian carp found beyond the electronic barrier. Millions spent, on the battle, but alas, the carp are winning the war! Hey, I wonder if we can entice the carp to go down to the Gulf & eat up the oil blobs from the spill? That will keep them occupied!!!

Article about the asian carp on the doostep of the Great Lakes below:

I absolutely cringe at the thoughts of those things in our Great Lakes...
from a North American point of view, who can really begin to imagine the ecosystem imbalance that will take place?

From a personal standpoint, there is nothing more I enjoy then to walk in the sandy bottom waters of our Long Point Bay, uninhibited by anything but minnows!!! OMG!

Well there goes the neighborhood for sure. I have actively joined the battle to keep this menace out of the great lakes but government seems to turn a deaf ear. They put up an electronic barrier as a token of concern but when pressed to do more they did nothing.

Once they're here, and they now are, there is no remedy. Now we have yet another non-native predator species to wreak havoc on these national treasures we call the great lakes.
