Vapor Lock???

Post by lakeguy72 »

After running for about an hour @3100 RPM(77 F32 w/233 mercs) I idled through a 1/2 mile no wake zone. When I powered up the SB engine went up to 3000 RPM and dropped back to 1500 for a second or so and went back to 3000. I ran it to 4000 and no problem. I'm thinking that the idling in 90 degree air for 20 minutes caused momentary vapor lock caused by heat soakback. This happened twice after idling through the no wake zones. I had plenty of fuel. The port engine didn't do it. Maybe I should have had the blowers on.
Any Thoughts

sounds like it could be vapor lock or weak accelerator pump and could even be a small vacuum leak, and yes is a good ideal when in a no wake (idle) to have the blows on may not help but it won't hurt.
