anyone looking for a 10m Express '86 (the one on ebay)

Post by BobCT »

I emailed the guy, thought it was a mid cabin but it's an express. He's asking 5k, said he would take 3k.

Supposedly runs, was on the water in '08. I was sort of thinking of working on something over the winter but came to my senses.

Just passing it on, boat is in NJ.

I found a 1986 11 meter express listed, but the listing area is CA. The photos of the boat show Newport on the stern though. There is no reserve, and the bidding is just over $5,000. Is this the correct one?

If so, it is a STEAL at $3,000 - 5,000.

I actually ended up buying this boat. It needs TLC, but for the price I could not pass it up. I will be pulling the motors over the winter and cleaning it up. I am sure I will be on this site often looking for advise. I will also post before and after pics when it is done.

interesting, I was seriously considering this as a project..

myself. It was a little too far for me though, I'm in CT. Seemed like a fire sale, last email he sent me was $3,000. Do the engines run? The engine room looked pretty good.

Your almost starting at free so I think you got a good deal if the hull is solid. Keep us posted, would love to see the progress. Is it staying in NJ?

Yes the boat is staying in NJ. The motors do run, but I will be checking them top to bottom over the winter. The hull is solid, just dirty. Main thing right now is locating some missing parts then the rest is just labor. For the price I cannot be disappointed!

two windows generally indicates a mid cabin.

However, this vessel has a low transom and visible ss air intakes which indicate an express cruiser vs the std mid cabin raised deck model.

The ER should be interesting. I wonder if she has wood stringers or the vacuum bonded hull liner with hollow stringers?

The boat is an express, no mid-cabin. I checked the stringers and the boat was vacuum bagged, no wooden stringers. Like I said, great project boat!

If the hull is solid and you are capable, willing, have the funding and the time, you could be in a great situation.

I originally thought it was a mid cabin too....

Post by BobCT »

because of the two ports on each side.

Myself, I like the challenge of rotten stringers. I need more to do :)

Now, where is the mid cabin that I had surveyed last year? It was at Hitchcock Marine in Stratford, CT. I heard the guy bought it and moved it down to Stamford, CT. That boat had really soft engine stringers. I know he got a good deal, just hope he knew that going in.

I wonder what the interior layout is?

My guess is they simply deleted two of the 6 windows.

The interior layout is the same as a regular express, just one window less on the port side. You can see from the picture where is was left out. Why.....who knows.
