Nothing wrong with the stock OEM system they used IMO . Seen less issues with them then aftermarket .

Ignition replacement

Post by N2itive »

Hi there,

Swap out the Chrysler P.O.S. with a Pertronix electronic conversion. When you remove the points plate, make sure you inspect/lube (if necessary) the ignition advance weights and linkage. Quite often rust builds up under there and hampers the actuation of the weights and not allowing for a correct ignition advance curve. Lubricate very sparingly as excess oil under the cap is not good. I haven't met an older V8 that didn't benefit immediately for the conversion.

Cheers

If you have the stock mopar electronic ignition system I would keep it instead of using some after market stuff . The after market maybe better then points but the factory electronic ignition system is the better set up IMO . If you do change over buy a extra kit so you have parts . Not fun being stuck some where and the only place to get parts is mail order .

I replaced mine with the Cummins ignition system. No more spark problems.
