HELP!! Trojan Identification

Post by kellyf »

I bought a 25 Ft cabin Cruiser recently and i am having trouble identifying it, I knew i was going to have to restore some of it and its going well but i would like some identification for any specifics that might come up.

I am in Japan and the boat saiys yamaha on it, but all i could find on VIN was the ML Imports INC, everything else is japanese code that i havent deciphered yet.

I am fairly certain it is a trojan boat the only questions i am running into is that it has twin mercruiser 165 I/O engines... I cant find any models that small that had twin engines- is there such a boat?

I am going to put a picture up but i need to put it on a url or something. In the mean time any ideas would be helpfull

A photo would be a key . anything else woulds be a guess with lack of info .I have never seen a Trojan 25 with twin mercruiser 165 I/O engines .However when dealing with a boat thats say 30 plus years old you can't go by the engines as there is a good chance it was repowered.Very few boats in the 25 foot range came twin I/O engines . the only 25 foot that comes to mine with twin mercruiser 165 I/O engines is a Bertram 25 . are the engines 6 cly(Chevy 250) or 4 cly ( merc made block) ?

Email me a photo and I will tell you what I think .

Welcome to the forum. Pictures would be a clincher for sure and good luck with your project.

The hull number would be great too and most Trojans that I am aware of have the hull number on the electrical panel in addition to being on the transom. Mine is located just above the swim platform on the starboard side of the transom.

Keep us informed as to how the project is going.

Picture and HIN

Post by kellyf »

I am new tho this forum and i havent figured out how to post a picture yet, But ill do that as soon as i have time to figure it out, In the mean time I have emailed a few to you Prowlersfish, Let me know what you think, or if you have any ideas.

The HID # is JP-MLIT0114728B, but i am in japan and so far the only thing i can decode is the MLI Which is the importer apparantly (unless i am doing something wrong) if needs be ill pay the 20 bucks to use a decoder search engine but i really dont think its that big a deal. Right now the curiosity is and the fact that i havent figured it out yet are my motivation.

And yes it has 2/ 165 Merc inline 6 engines.

Also the only place the HIN is located as far as i can tell is just below the steering column by the captains chair, and on the title....(WHich is the only thing i can read since i am not to good at Katakana and KANJI)

I saw the other pictures that you posted on the iBoats forum that are not posted here and the one that struck me the most was the one of the steering wheel with the name "Yamaha" right in the center of it. Given the fact that the one name plate says "Yamaha Motor Co.; Ltd." and the steering wheel says "Yamaha" is there some reason that you think this boat is not made by Yamaha?

Honestly i would expect it to be made by Yamaha, I was searching yamaha models for the past 40 years and i cannot find a single one that matches this boat. I was actually looking at the yamaha FR-25, F-25 and a few others when i found the trojan boats that also resemble it. But the hangup is the twin engines, i cant find a boat model in Yamaha or anything else that has twin engines in a 25 fT'er and the plate has the the 170 X 2 Engines stamped right on it so i am pretty sure it was not re powered.

Aside from that Noone- Here, Iboats, The previous owner, The Marina where I have her in dry dock now- Have any clue what it is.

I am not the most savvy when it comes to boats and boat research, and i might be missing something, but the only even remote clue i can gather from the numbers in the picture (the only HIN i can find ANYWHERE on this thing) is that it at somepoint had something to do with ML Imports, which is an international shipping company and i am not sure ever made boats... Unless the Source i used was jacked up.

It really doesnt matter, I am almost ready to test the engines after a rebuild and all i really wanted was some design and repair ideas i am kind of having to make it up based on other boat models and i would like to be sure i am not messing somethign up. But i suppose as long as i dont go crazy with redesigns all wil be well and a new coat a paint and some housekeeping she will be a great boat... Even if she is someones disowned redheaded stepchild.

In fact that might a good name for her

"Redheaded Stepchild"

I kinda like it
