Windlass model 620 ?
I have a 79 Trojan F36, the windlass has a full cover over it that is black. It says model 620, but i cannot find any info on it. I have looked on power winch and maxwells website. There is a broken piece, looks like a guide. Also i need to know what size chain i need, because it currently wont pull the chain in, just the rope. Any help ? Suggestions ? i can post some photos tommorow.
thanks.
thanks.

You know, I replaced my PowerWinch a little over a year ago and I could not find the model number or info either. However, it does look like a PowerWinch brand of some sort, only because the internal components look similiar to my old unit.
Try calling one of these service centers and inquire. Otherwise, someone may positively identify it soon. Good luck.

Looks a lot like the power winch to me also If fact it looks like a power winch for a trailer not a anchor windlass . That was not a windless that came with the boat from trojan. I would look for another new or used windlass .
Is there more to it then in the photos ?
If it is a windlass in maybe made for rope only not chain ( mine is that way)

I did an exhaustive Google search and the only thing 620 kept coming back to Powerwinch, probably a trailer winch like Paul said.

I've always had Good AFDs and it's what I recommend to customers. Just this spring I installed a RE-Man from Good, my customer said it was a lot cheaper.

i just purchased this for my f32.
http://search.defender.com/?expression=000998&x=11&y=1
last week i got it for $499, on a boatshow special that ran out on the 17th. defender according to maxwell, purchased all remaining stock. they were discontinued in august.2010. however i called maxwell.and these will be supported for 10 more years. compared to the prices that these sold for, this price is unreal. i worried about them not being manufactured anymore but they assured me there would be support for them (but what else would they say right?) anyway what i have read maxwell has a rep also. i also like the lower profile on my deck.

ok i did a quick search for "anchor" but did not see much, a few pages, but saw my old post. So back to the original post. My windlass is completely rebuilt but i guess i am pretty confident it is just a "rope" windlass. The anchor i have is maybe a 5lb ? Im not sure, i originaly bought 18' of chain, but it will not suck it in, just the rope. I was told by a marine surpluss place that you should have at least half the length of the boat in chain. Can i get rid of all this chain and just go with a 20lb danforth anchor ? The anchor i have will not hook up at all without the chain. The chain is galvanized and not worth a crap it has left rust spots all over the deck. I was thinking a heavier more heavy duty anchor may hook up easier and the rope windlass would pull it up with just the rope. Any info would be appreciated.
thanks.

Well here's what I've done to mine. I have a Goode which is all rode and no chain. The P.O. didn't have any chain so I got 30' foot of white pvc covered chain 3/8's I think , and just wrap it around the windless's cleat . This has worked so far me, I'll use this set up until I kill the Goode and then change to a chain/rode windless

I've had "Good" windlasses on my last 2 boats, and this one, each one had a heavy piece of chain maybe 3' long that started at the windlass and ended at the anchor when at rest in its cradle. I drop anchor probably 50 times a year and can only remember one time I didn't hookup on the first try. A heavier anchor probably helps

That's a powerwinch, I have the same model on my boat. I used it for a full season last year and it worked great. I "think" it came on my boat originally or was installed right away based on the age.
Rope only...I have about 12' of chain I keep on the deck and will probably replace that with longer but it always set easily with a danforth.
I took the side cover and greased everything up, repainted the cover and will use it until it burns out.
Bob
P.S. - no parts available for this model.

I did the same as Tony but only use a 6 to 12 foot chain when over night but never had a issue with no chain as a day hook. I believe my anchor to be in they 20 lb range .
A 5lb anchor is way to small for your boat even with chain . 12 lb w/6 ft chain min if running a true danforth hi tensile if running the cheaper Danforth 22 lb min. . a off brand danford type 22lb min or more .
How much line do you carry ? what size ? the longer the line you have out the better the anchor will hold
http://www.cncphotoalbum.com/technical/anchorguide.htm
if you notice there a 2 type of danfoths listed H = hi tensile s= standard a 12lb 12h has the same holding power as a 22s
you will notice the lightness of Fortress , that because the are aluminum
Good galvanized chain should not leave rust on your deck I would never ever use plastic coated chain , a it can look great and be rusting away inside and will never know it untill breaks . I Learned that the hard way .

An pre-season check of pvc coated chain is required
