Had the exact problem on a deck boat one time..... was the accelerator pump. I had so much gas in my oil that it smelled flamable.

Accel pump? How? I was suspicous of my accel pump, and have replaced it twice because I thought fuel was bypassing it, but ... its only supposed to work when its pumped up/down.

???

Might get to work on it this week ... finished my dock work this am.

Haven't gotten to it yet. Business picked up, as well as fishing and some work on my dock.

Off to the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show today ... http://www.woodenboatshow.com/

Pretty cool - they have a boat building competition - 2 guys build a boat in about an hour that they have to take across the harbor and back without sinking to win.

Well I've got and ideal for you with what's up with your q-jet . A year ago I was going through the corn gas hell. I had a carb that went bad I bought a new one from serria. Well went back in to some post and my captain's log to see what it was doing . And it sounds the same as yours. I jest took the old one apart and found pcs. of hard black rubber in the float and in the needle seat . And I'm ordering a new gasket set for today.

I've replaced these twice - no improvement.

I haven't had time to work on it ... but am thinking of swapping th Qjet from my old Vette and see if it works. If not, I'll replace the fuel pump.

Not sure which model fuel pump (mounted on water pump housing/pulley) I have ...
Carter or Airtex ?

You might want to change that pump. Had trouble with one and it would over pressurize the bowl. But I can't help you with which you have I've got old school on block bowtie pumps.

I'm 90% sure its Mercruiser Fuel Pump p/n 861677T
"7.4LX Bravo MPI Gen VI 1996-97 w/ seawater pump"
http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?no=77339F
which replaces p/n 818383T

which seem to be interchangeable:
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid ... Categories
"New Mercruiser style mechanical fuel pump to mount on seawater pump.
Replaces OEM part# 818383T and 861677T.

But I need to dig a little deeper ...
