36 Tri Cabin questions

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum.

I just bought a 36 85' Tri-Cabin, and I had a couple of questions. First, where is the aft vent fan motor in the head located? I can't seem to find that. Next, are the florecent lights in the salon 12 volt?...I think they are but wanted to make sure. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new purchase.

My '79 tri-cabin is quite a bit different from yours so I doubt that anything you inquire about is the same as yours but there are some here who have the same model and will be able to answer your question.

Did you mean the vent fan motor for the "rear" head? If so, you go into the salon and open that closet door located under your galley sink. Looking under there with a flashlight, you'll easily see the exhaust fan, fastened to the inside wall of the hull at about counter top level.

Fluorescent lights?? hmmmmmn. None were installed stock that I know of, but then again, I'm driving an 1974. I did put a DC fluorescent job into my shower though and it works well.

Again Joe, welcome to the wacky world of Trojan owners (we're all hopelessly prejudiced)... Usually we do require new members to drive over a mudbar but rest assured, Aaron's already done it this week.

it could have been jimmy hoffa's crab pot. (all kidding aside, i'm still stinging and totally bummed over that) last week when i was down on the boat and she was rocking, i kept hearing this sound that sounded like chains hitting the underside of the boat, port side aft. then again, i think it could have been jacom marley. i have contacted a diver but have yet to hear from him. i've been flying for the past few days and have not had a chance to catch up on things.

now, onto the real issue at hand. the lights in the main salon between the window valence and cabin side are indeed 12 thin-lite (tm) brand (at least on my tri cabin) fluorescent lights. the switch is mounted near the main cabin door, galley cabinet, facing the steps above the refrigerator. a good way to see what is 12v or 110, turn off the main breaker and then turn on the lights. what works without ac power is a 12v system. if you do a google search, these lights and parts can often be found at RV stores or websites. i have a massive rv store near me, and i've been able to find a lot of replacement items such as square light lens covers from them. at a fraction of the cost of a boat supply place.

as for the shower/tub/head exhaust motor, i'm still getting to know my 'new girl' and have yet to find out where some things are. i believe the motor is located behind a galley cabinet, port side. try running the fan and trace the sound. that is, if it is working.

thats the best i can do right now. i'm tired snf jet lagged so i hope i'm making sense.

Wow thanks everyone! I will look for the motor. Also thanks for the info about the 12v. cabin lights.

BTW, I think someone has already ran over a sandbar bc when it comes out of the water on Friday, it needs a shaft straightened and prop fixed I will get some pics soon.

I am in the "gutting" stage. I've already ripped out the holding tank and head hoses in the "basement", spend 2 entire weekends cleaning bilges, took out all carpet and padding, and soon to be fridge, couch and hot water tank. Going to be a good ol' party barge when I get done and I will make sure to post pics along the way!!!

i've done some research on the INDIRECT 12V lighting issue. actually, there is no such thing as a 12v fluorescent light. there is a small micro-inverter that turns the 12v dc into ac to power the ballast for the light. anyway, i believe the thin-lite model we have is the T100 series and can be found at this website.... http://store.solar-electric.com/thinlit ... 5QodImquNg

since you do not want it too bright, a replacement should be in the 8watt range. these fixtures do not have a switch or lens cover as they are for indirect lighting only. hard wired in series. at least that is what is is for mine. hope this helps.

basement? there is no basement on a boat. it's a bilge.

ron, your layout is unique amongst the tri cabins out there, as this particular interior design layout (forward U shaped galley) and exterior vents (no clamshell vents) were incorporated during the final years of tri cabin production of 1986/87. from 1980 until late 1985 for the 1986 model year, the interior design layout consisted of centerline queen berth and combo small tub/shower for the aft stateroom, L shaped galley port side salon aft area and pull out castro sofa, three side steps going to the forward cabin area with duel access to the forward head and v-berth (no center line berth on this model). on the exterior, there are inline vents and clamshells. two clamshells port, one starboard.

joe, i hope this answers your questions. as for the 12v indirect lighting that you and i have, thin-lite was/is the manufacturer and the model number is the T100 series. the link from my previous post should be sufficient to answer your concerns for these lights.

let me know if that is correct. you can probably cross reference the light cover by the model number of the light. if not, the rv store near me might be able to get you a replacement lens. they have been a world of help to me in the past.

I know its not the "basement", I know its the bilge, but that front compartment I call the basement
