Drilling through the transom

Adding some new holes in the transom for my new swim platform brackets. Since the transom is solid fiberglass can I just fill the new hole with 4200 and put the new bolts in place. I have read articles about filling the hole with epoxy first and let it set up and redrill your new hole. Is this method just for a boat with a cored hull? I asume to stop water from getting in. SOme articles say 4200 or 5200 is enough for a solid fiberglass hull..... any thougts?

5200 is better than 4200 if you don't plan to remove the stuff any time soon, but as long as you have things well bedded and sealed either of them will work fine without having to use epoxy.

Maniac's way is right. That's the way its been for years. But there's always another way imo I would drill and epoxy the holes. Fiberglass will still soak up water if the 4200 fails. This the way our boatyard would do it.

Epoxy won't hurt but if not cored its really not needed .
