A 318 is a SMALL block.

A short block is an engine with basically, crank, pistons, rods, camshaft.

A long block is an engine with everything, including cylinder heads, minus the tin hardware (Oil pan, valve covers, timing cover, ect.)

A big block has more cubic inches, usually produces more HP and torque. The big block will weigh more and probably consume a lot more fuel.

Are you trying to compare a big block vs a small block?

Assuming you have 'Boat Levelor' trim tabs: when you mash the top of the trim tab switches (to push the bow down) the hydraulic pump should run and both tabs should go down. The opposite happens when you push the bottom of the switches. Each tab should work individually if you only press one switch.

Dean , what year is your 318 ? the made 2 different 318s the first one was made in the late 50s to the mid 60s then when to the new style 318
I think the marine engines changed in 1967-70 or so .

did a liltle checking A engine 318 1957-67 ( old type)
LA engine 318 1967-2001 new type
these were the years the engines were made. may have use the left over A engine for later year marine engines .
the easiest way to tell is by the heads
