I thought I owuld share a few photos of my latest project, adding interior indirect lighting, the overhead lights at night ar bright, glaring and unflattering..

yes this is 12VDC 1/2" dia. rope lighting, I added switches to each area and used the "accessory" switch in the overhead console electric panel for the salon lights.
I will be adding a teak valance across the forward overhead in the forward cabin and install lights behind the valance and also under each stair tread to illuminate the ladder well.

I ended up with a 100' roll of this rope lighting after a project where we installed rope lighting in the tool bins of a fleet of service trucks in our fleet, however, i dont think it is all that expensive, it is easy to cut and splice.
te rope lighting worked great for tool bins because of the lower light and not the glaring overhead light, we ran the rope light around the inside opening of each bin door whick illminated the entire bin, not just the top shelf or the one open drawer as an overhead light odes.

in the boat, it adds a nice glow and a very welcoming feel to the boat!

hi gettaway yes i like the rope light also. i had installed 12v rope lights in the salon and the galley of my f32. last year. i did wonder about the forward v berth and think that would look great. would like to see your valance and pics after you get yours done. i really enjoy mine. i used 12 v leds so the power consumption is very minimal i may have missed your note but are yours leds or incandecent 12v? if the latter have you put a amp meter on them to see how much power they are using? i chose the leds but didnt have any reference to the other for comparison.

Your indirect rope lighting looks great. If you have some extra, try putting some up under the gunnels in your cockpit. It'l light up the cockpit floor without killing your night vision.

oh yes forgot about the cockpit. i installed both red and white rope lights there and can alternately turn either one on at a time. i think its really cool. i agree definetly install them there. i get really gung ho (according to the wife anyway)when it comes to lightning. probably will be doing something similair to the flybridge also

the red LED lights from WM. They're around $10 and work great. They are big enough to cover the screw holes from the old lights but you do need to cut a bigger hole for the new light.

For you mid cabin guys, I'm talking about the one in front of the cabin door and the two under each step/aft.

I'm going to add a couple of more over the winter.

LARK is a 1977 with mercruiser 228's (gm 305s) and a project but coming along nicely, I bought her last may form a guy who kind of walked away because of cash flow
