f-26 flybridge rudder replacement/fix

Post by fsujeeper »

hi guys, i've been lurking for a while and finally started to do some work on my 78 f26. this website is great.

the steering is horrible. when i pulled the boat, the rudder was bent directly aft. while i have the rudder out of the boat, should i replace it with a bigger one to increase maneuverability. thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forum,

I increased the size of my rudder from the factory size and it has worked out well. The most noticeable improvement is in reverse once the boat is in motion. Some, but not that much difference in forward.

Below is my existing set up.

Hope this helps,

thanks for the reply. i'm going to pull the rudder, get it straightened. in the meantime, i'm going to hit the boat salvage yard and try to find one a bit bigger and try them out this spring.
