Rub Rail Alternatives?
I checked into prices for new vinyl rub rail for the little Snug Harbor dinghy I am fixing up and nearly had a coronary. Five bucks a foot (26ft) plus tax and shipping from Wefco and the dinghy maker will sell me some "they have around" they will sell me for $200 plus/plus. Holy toledo, Batman!
Can anyone tell me something else I can use for rubrail? Garden hose riveted on ?
Oh the edge of the dinghy has a horizontal flange around the entire boat where the two hulls mate and are (to be ) glued together. The old rubrail is sort of "U" shaped and fits over the flange.
Please brainstorm and help. Mamma caught wind of how much it will be and is threatening me with bad things.

I seen an old crabber use bicycle tires
Was definately a different look
The stuff I've used is a little cheaper price, but you have to bend it with a heat gun

When you can't make them see the light, make them feel the heat.

Can you re-purpose some 'Dock Edge' stuff ? Here's some stuff at West Marine http://www.westmarine.com/1/1/6079--doc ... w-10l.html but there are probably some other cheaper ones out there. Also, you don't necessarily need to cover every inch of the rail - bow, each back corner, and then you could do 6-12" strips (protected) then 6" gap before the next one around the perimeter. That way you would only need 1/2 to 2/3 as much rubrail...
OR, tell the wife that she either lets you get proper rubrail, or you need to line the outside of the boat with fenders like these http://www.anchoring.com/popup_image.php?pID=265
Her choice. Good luck!

Hey Foofer,
Try going thru the product catalog at http://www.spaenaur.com . I'll bet you'll find something here that will work and be cost effective. Look under "rubber & plastic extrusions.

I could not find the kind I needed from Beacon but found a duplicate of what was on my f28 at : http://www.rubrails.com/. they shipped and I received without any problems.
Don't know about comparative cost as it was the only place that had the aluminum rub rail I needed.

I kind of want to go with a u-shaped molding to be able to glue it on.
I like that idea!!
Six of these would be nice!
