I didn't see specific reference to the engines being 6B's.... if they are 555's or the VT (unlikely)- not that good of a deal.

Showed this to my yard . They guessed 10 to 15 k to swap them out and then you have a boat to scrap which isn't cheap with all the EPA crap

Well if it were me I would probably do a rebuild on the engines b4 setting them in the boat depending on hours and other test results.

That goes with out saying , but if it runs good , passes the blow by test , and has good oil pressure and all that can be done in a 30 minute sea trail of the old boat . and if its all good do some maintenance then drop them in

Isn't 3,500 hrs a lot for an engine??

Depends on how well they were taken care of. My crusaders are spotless on the inside of the engines, the oil hardly looks used at the end of fifty hours, the pressures are excellent, no overheating, and 1460+ hours on them! If you take care of something and don't shortcut it it will last. But that many hours I probably would do a major refreshing then drop them in!!

A cummins B at 250 hp , if not abused No. The blow by test is the tell . All will have some the amount is the key , cummins has a tool for checking the amount . but you can also judge it by looking . or the "oil cap test" ( will it blow the oil cap off ) . Even with blow by they can run a and run.

The cummins B is also very cheap to go thru . its rare they need boring. In many cases it rings and go . The lower ends are over built and pretty well built proff .

My problem with the blow by is if you can play catch with the oil cap then it will lead to a large unwanted oil mess in the bilge so save the aggrevation IMO. Or buy stock in Mr. Clean for the bilge!! I don't like taking chances, they are out, easy to get to, do it and be good for another 3500+ hours?
