Tips on cleaning non skid

Post by rbcool »

The non skid surfaces on my Tri are unlike any I've ever seen. The dimples are like the surface of the moon, very pronounced. Not like a golf ball with rounded edges. Cleaning fish guts and such is almost impossible. No matter what cleaner I use or type of deck brush not getting good results. I've always used Purple Power with amazing results, but not on this boat!!!! I'm starting to think I'll have to get down on my hands and knees and use a little tiny scrub brush. Anybody have this type of deck surface??
Thanks

Here's what I use http://www.westmarine.com/1/1/3876--non ... allon.html

Mind you, I don't go killing innocent little fishies and grinding their guts in to the gel... but the stuff does a pretty good job getting rid of bird and spider poop, and other accumulated crap that falls from the skies a mile downwind of the steel plants and coal piles...

Wash the boat down, spray a bit of this on the non-skid and use regular boat brush to spread it around, let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then a light scrubbing and hose off (well).

Another thought - have you ever waxed the non-skid? Maybe the gel is just super-porous. I use to help seal the non-skid. http://www.auroramarine.com/aurora/cata ... index.html I use a soft bristle scrubbing brush to apply and work it in to all the crevices, then when dried to a haze I use another soft to medium bristle scrubbing brush to 'buff'... Kinda like the old school way of polishing shoes...

Polishing shoes!, wow, that is old shool. Brings back fond memories of when I was a kid, had to polish my shoes before church. I hated it. I think that went out in the early sixties?

I use Starbrite non skid deck cleaner. Works good if you follow the directions.
I have a 28 ft Trojan docked on Catawba Island in Onio. Would like to hear from other Trojan owners in the area.

Soft Scrub with bleach works for me. Looks even better after one day in the sun.
