mid cabin - transom step onto platform

Post by BobCT »

Am I the only one who thinks the step is too narrow and why did they mount it off center to the transom cutout!

I would like to get a bigger one but haven't seen any out there. I'll check with Bob but I think I need to find one from another model boat that's wider.

Do you have a step? I have a metal ledge that is very small. Almost get a full foot on it.

FWIW the transom and gunnels on the midcabins is significantly taller on the outside than the express cruiser, which is where that step came from.

I'm not sure, but it might also be found on certain other non-International Trojans as well.

Just some additional FWIW info.

metal ledge is a better description... "step" might be too generous :)

If I could find one that was wider and a little deeper that would be an easy upgrade. If it was at least centered that would help but then I'll have a hole to fill.

I've been searching online but I can't find a single step from any manufacturer. All my searches come back with some type of ladder.

If you guys see anything, I'd appreciate any leads.

Bob,

I've seen various styles of folding steps used for stepping from high gunnels into a cockpit.

Most are wide and deep. Seen them in teak and composite materials.

The factory step uses a wooden backing plate/stiffiner on the inside of the transom.

Whatever you replace yours with, it would be prudent to take a piece of "plastic" plywood and make an oversized backing plate.
