and yet another stupid and redundant question,,,,,

Post by guglielmo6160 »

almost sea worthy, and going to hook up the flange from the prop shaft this weekend to the v drive
just to clarify, as I am going to motor the boat to a nearby marina to have the bottom scraped and painted, ,,,
Under the boat,, the prop shaft passes through a cutlass bearing,, then through the hull to the stuffing box, and then to the v drive
just making sure there are no other support areas, such as bushing etc, as most of you know this was a project boat, and its down to the wire. I assembled most items in the water, I went under the boat and pushed the prop shaft up to meet the back of the v drive, as the boat was re powered prior to my getting it.
the reason I keep asking is it seems strange that that there is nothing else supporting the prop shaft besides the cutlass and the back of the v drive flange,

That's it. The shaft is supported inside the boat by your Velvet drive, then under the boat by one strut. This is a short shaft and doesn't require additional support.

Not familiar enough with your boat and V-Drives, but I don't think there is any other support, just strut/cutlas-bearing, stuffing-box and transmission.

Hey Guglielmo6160 - where do you boat. Your profile says "NY / NJ" or did you re-locate to Cape Coral?
