Accent stripe

Post by Torcan »

Hi fellow Trojan owners
I am trying to find the size and supplier of the Gold Accent stripe that is on my boat, just above the water line.
My boat is presently on the hard and a good distance from where I live at present, but I do know the stripe is a little frayed in places and was looking at maybe replacing it.
Does anyone know the size of that stripe, I imagine it must be the same on most Trojans, from the pics I have, maybe 2" ???
I did find a possible supplier on e-bay, but I can't even ask a question as he doesn"t deal with anyone out of the USA
Don't know if he has the gold in stock or not, either.

Beacon would know exactly what you need and probably has in stock. Closer to home, Crates Keswick got all the stuff from Dawson's when they purchased them. Dawson's was a Trojan dealer. They may have the exact item you need. Any marina with a good service department will also have a selection of different ones in stock for hull and bottom jobs.

2" ? I think my gold stripe is only about 1 - 1.5" (not sure exactly what size).

A few years back Mine was messed up in the area of the fuel tank vents - fuel overflow at fillups running down the sides weren't good for the tape I guess.

Now, here is where I have to cringe a bit.... a CARVER owner gave me a small roll of gold that they didn't intend to use. I actually used a *Carver* part on my boat!!! AAARRGH!!! (that should make Tony happy!) Perfect colour match.

The tape wasn't the same width as the Trojan stripe, but I layered 2 pieces to do the job. Within 10' you can see what I did, beyond that it looks like the original striping. I used an xacto knife to cut the old striping cleanly in front and behind the messed up area, layered the new tape on (lower piece first, the upper piece so that stuff running down the hull doesn't run in between the two pieces), and overlapped the old hull tape about 1" on the ahead of and behind the repair.

Don't know how much I have left on the roll - if you are looking to patch a few spots I may have enough to give you to try the same approach; if you are looking to replace the whole stripe, I definitely don't have enough. Don't have my boat graphics company info hand right now; if I find it over the next couple of days I can throw out a list of potential suppliers for you.

sounds great captainmaniac
I thought I would have to re-do the entire stripe
but a little might work out great, here is the area I am speaking about
There is also another spot not quite so bad that needs repair as well on the other side.

I know that the factory stripe on my tri-cabin was a 3 different system. It was a big stripe, then a 3/4 then 1/4. I didn't like it and that I wanted to stripe it into black and gold like the nicer Trojans were.

To compensate for the HUGE waterline, I chose a 3" black and a 2" Gold metalic stripe. It makes the bottom and the striping look more proportionate. I will have pics shortly of my boats restoration!

Its is important that if you have a big waterline and paint that you got with a big stripe so it looks normal. if you go small it wouldn't look right.

Man Torcan!!!! You got it Gravy there
I would replace the whole stern section, then nobody would know the difference !!!

And WTF is wrong with Carver???? I desperately tried to find a Mariner series that wasn't neglected by the PO before I found this Tri. If I wouldn't have found this EXACT Tri, I'd be cruising in a Carver 36 Mariner 'bout now

It appears it is vanishing tape ... can't find the roll I had, and haven't been able to find my old sourcing files either... Time to clean the basement I guess.....

Incidentally, my hull stripe is 1", and the tape I *thought* I had was 3/4".
