AARON'S CARVER DROP LEAF HI-LO TABLE (etc)

Post by aaronbocknek »

hi gang, just wanted to post some pics of this table i have had since last july. i began my quest for a table for the f-32, but always had the tri cabin in the back of my mind. anyway, i've always loved the drop leaf hi-lo table that carver yachts manufactured in the early 1980's. i sent out a nationwide apb, and i actually got a response from a sales rep for carver in wisconsin. he knew of the table and said that there just ''happened to be one sitting in the company reception area, and need of some restoration.'' i said that i could restore it if it was not falling apart, and once he assured me that all it needed was a bit of TLC. he mentioned that once we could agree on a price, i had to have a carver dealership in the area to ship it to, since he was not allowed to do a direct sale. i arranged for my contacts at mcdaniel yacht sales in north east to handle the drop ship of the table, and in two weeks, my prize arrived. all it really needed was for the teak to be sanded and oiled, which i did that very afternoon. i sent an email to my carver rep and he informed me that this table was the last one ever produced, so she is the last of her kind.
he also explained that they still get requests for them to build this table, but, for some reason, the piston device is no longer made and carver no longer uses teak in their boats. while i was restoring the table, i was astounded at the overall craftsmanship. simple and functional and HEAVY. personally, i think its a great addition to my tri cabin. let me know what you all think.
enjoy.

thanks for the positive comments guys. i appreciate it. that table is amazing in design and function. i was greatful for bret at carver/marquis to have worked with me on obtaining this piece of nautical history.
i know trojan had two versions of a dining table.... the folding gate leg table that we had on our tri cabin, and the hi-lo table that had a storage area in the center. i would have loved to find the gate leg table but they are rare, although i would not mind having one of those too. there is a compartment on the tri cabin that has a flip up shelf where the original table was stowed when not in use.

Nice table Aaron and just the right size for the tri-cabin. My wife and I have been looking for something like that but didn't know where to begin. Looks like it fits perfectly in front of the couch.

when i started my search for the table for the f-32 i kept looking at all carver ads showing this drop leaf table. i mostly found it on the 3207 aft cabin. then, i went on yachtworld and looked up the boat and most of them had this table in the small salon. finally, i managed to actually see one of these great tables in person and that sealed the deal. i had to have one of these and thus began my search. i started on craigslist and posted on sites from main to florida (major boating centers)and even in the midwest, targeting wisconsin since carvers are manufactured there. within two weeks, i actually had responses for all sorts of tables but not the carver table. then one day, i get this email from bret at marquis/carver telling me about the one in the reception area in pulaski, wisconsin. we did the email back and forth and once we settled on a price, i had my contact at mcdaniel yacht sales ships store finalize the paperwork. i wish that carver would start making these again, even as a side business. the design is simple and functional and the craftsmanship is astounding. not to slam trojan, but carvers, especially the ones made in the late 1970's and into the 1990's had some of the best wood work finishes in the industry, and it clearly shows in this table.
