Moved Aboard this Weekend

I Figured the only way for me to make any real progress on "Basket Case" is to move aboard her. So that's what I did this past Saturday. Now I have a 45 minute commute to NYC and get to work on her almost every night. With daylight Savings time around the corner, I expect to begin making some real progress.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. I have more than one Admiral which is plenty reason to move aboard! All I have to put up with are the questions like "What's in all those packages UPS is dropping at the house?"

Spent my first night aboard last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The boat settled down sometime after midnight when the commercial traffic on the Hudson thinned out a bit. Up till that time there's a lot of rockin and rollin. Was a bit nippy this morning at 6:30 am but I put on my aux propane heating and and to shut it off after only about 15 minutes. Puts out 30,000 BTUs.

The Tri-Cabin (as some of you well know) has a LOT of hanging locker, drawer and general storage space. When I'm done assimilating everything into the various spaces, the boat will look organized. I'll take pictures and post my progress.

Good luck with the move aboard! I usually spend most of the summer on my F26, really missing it right now, Damn these cold Canadian winters. Just one thing, be carefull with that propane heater, I know you mentioned that you have boating experience, but a lot of people don't know, or forget, that propane is heavier that air and you've got to be REALLY carefull when you bring it on board. Being heavier than air, propane drops to the bottom of bilge, and fills from the bottom up, waiting for a spark.

Thanks, Guys. I've had propane heating and cooking on several past boats so I have a real sense of caution when it comes to this. I'm going to install a propane "sniffer" as well. Honestly, the nighttime temps in this area have become so mild (meaning above freezing) in the last week, that I'm not using the propane at all now. Just two electric heaters: 1 fore and 1 aft - both set to "low" are taking care of the chill nicely. Also one of the previous owners pulled all the headliners down and installed non-hygroscopic foam insulation in all the bays before installing new headliner material so I'm in good shape there.

Don't forget a CO detector, or to change the batts if already equipped.
