What are you doing to the deck? Getting ready to leave and go work on mine. Got 3 thru hulls to install, new 1 1/4 p/u hose's for engines, new p/u hose for head, strainers for genset, a/c pump, and head. Then repack shafts and rudders, rebuild water pumps, oh then I need to locate 2 pc's of 11/2x4x10' mahogany!

I'm uncovered and starting to clean today. I plan to launch in about 4 weeks so I have my work cut out for me.

Guys, as a native Floridian who has never lived north of the Fla/Ga line, I gotta say I just cannot relate to the kinda weather ya'll endure. Sure it freezes down here, maybe a dozen times a year and usually for only a few hours overnight. We hit 80 last week and our cold snap last night will reduce our LOW/HI to about38/75 today and then warm up the rest of the week. Winterizing was putting a hundred watt bulb in the cabin!

I guess the old addage- weekends would not be a s fun if you did not work all week. But boating all year long is even better than sitting it out 6 months a year due to snow (yuck) and ice(ARGH).

[quote="foofer b"]Guys, as a native Floridian who has never lived north of the Fla/Ga line, I gotta say I just cannot relate to the kinda weather ya'll endure.

As a northern boater, let me try to explain our boating lifestyle. You have heard the saying, "you never know what you have until it is gone". Every year Mother Nature takes our boating away. If you could just see the excitment in our eyes on launch day  you may understand. It's like being re-born. It is a similar feeling to the first day with the new boat, EVERY YEAR! 8) Notice how we like to complain all winter about the snow and ice? The weather is not the enemy, it is the anxiousness and time we have to experience until.. LAUNCH DAY! Most like the 4 seasons.

A lifelong friend of mine moved to Stuart Fla several years ago. He and his wife were huge Georgian Bay boater's. Recently he told me they missed boating in Georgian Bay the most, about living in Canada. Living in Florida, boating has no appeal to them. (He is not a fisherman)

I believe it is this forced downtime  that results in a revitelization, :D that northern boater's experience every year that keeps our interest and us on the water year after year.

Just the opinion of a lifelong northern boater  jimbo36

I agree with Jimbo 100%... I get so excited this time of year! I can't wait to get the boat in the water and start the season....

Jimbo I'd like to add I for one like the 3 or 4 months of down time from use to do fix up things . I/we can instead of buying gas can use the money for projects and don't think of it as down time.

Well said Jimbo. I guess the best of both worlds for me would be to head south for the winter while the old girl is asleep (the boat I mean). But I would not miss the much anticipated launch day. It's like watching the eyes on a bunch of kids opening presents on Christmas morning.....priceless.

Spring time

Post by chas1450 »

Oh yes guys, we are starting to get spring fever, even thought we live aboard, but boy we where surprised today when we fired up and was going to go for a little run, port engine water pump went to pouring like a cow peeing on a flat rock. then both raw water pumps went to leaking out of the shaft seals, we ran her last weekend, and no problems
