50 amp vs. 30 amp
They are doing some work in the slip where my 1975 f36 is docked and I've got to go into a 30 amp slip. I am trying to find out problems i run not other than only running one ac unit. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Brian
Thanks,
Brian

It's my first season with the boat and the previous owner tells me that with the 50 amp splitter to twin 30's everything on the boat can run at once but with one 30 amp there are limitations, i just want to know what I'm in for for the next few weeks. He also said you can't run both ac units on 30 amp so I am more curious as to what i can run.

One a/c and you will be pretty good for the most part , unless you cook and dry your hair at the same time . Don't for get when using 1 cord you need the flip the switch between the 2 main breakers

The hassle is you only have 1/2 of the boat hot at a time.

What Paul said. You'll basically have to manage your electrical use more carefully. It's like having two 15 amp outlets at home on the same circuit; plug in a couple of higher load items like coffee maker and heater or blow dryer at the same time, and you leave little room for anything else. Remember that if your hot water heater breaker is on, it can kick in at any time.

A lot of twin 30 amp are split only for air/heat on line two, no cross over. Most newer boaters these days aren't as concious as some of us when it comes to power management. They just want to get on board, turn the key, have all thier electrical conveniences running, and party. Give them the ability to run everything off one line and you end up with overheated cords, melted ends, and fire hazards. Now don't get me wrong, we love to party, but we're very aware of our vessel's systems and how they can affect us.
