Still say bull , after all why could you run the same compressor on a heat pump at 50 degrees but not on a/c unit ( or heat pump on a/c mode ? )

It may not cool or heat as well out side those limits , and if using the heat pump mode you should not use it if the water temp is below 40 deg. as the water can freeze in the unit and that can cause damage . but on those rare 80 degree days we sometimes get in Jan or Feb when the water temp is well below 60 I will run my AC and you can sweat

By the way you said . qoute " Don't turn on the AC, if you have one, until the outside temp. is at least 60 degrees. "

and then you post water temp info not the same thing at all ??

Different info different brands / years ?

My A/C book say nothing about low temp on a/c only says it wont cool as well at higher water temps of course my a/c has softly switch's to prevent damage ( some older units don't )

and my reverse cycle units say it could freeze up at low water temp in heat mode ( I have 2 units )

I also base this on what I have run into for many years or so and have been licensed on a/c for years .

I have a reverse cycle unit in my boat too, but have yet to pull out that manual. I am too busy trying to figure out how the hell my holding tank got full (brand new, unused system)

Not all AC units are built the same. Sure , in theory it looks like they all work the same way, but the duty cycles and operating environments of the various units are different depending on the use (residential, commercial/marine/aviation/refrigerated truck, etc, etc). As a licensed building inspector in three states I can tell you (as far as RESIDENTIAL units are concerned), I never test one if the outside temperature is below 60 degrees. End of story.

It was installed last winter, brand new system down to the clamps. I think I operated the toilet incorrectly, allowing water to be forced in while underway. Some valve or something. I never thought I would have to read a book about how to use the throne. Read a book on the throne, yes. About the throne, not so much.
