Help with v-drive

Post by rebel »

First time here,I enjoy reading and it sounds like a lot of you know alot about trojans.Well I just got one and know nothing,so any help would be great.I have a 77 F-30 express that has twin 318's and 1:1 v-drives but one is bad so I was going to put two 1.91:1 v-drives.Is this a good idea? If so any idea about the best props to use?

Why not keep it simple? Repair/replace one tranny as opposed to replacing two trannies, props and perhaps more?

First you don't have v drives not on a 77 F30 you have Velvet drives to go to a 1.91 gear you will need move the engines forward , change the shafts to 1 1/4 ir larger and go to a much larger wheel , and you cant clear a much larger wheel so you need to change the shaft angle some and that could course trim issues ( would be OK with big blocks as we have done it )

In other words stay with the 1 to 1

Thanks for the insight, like I said I know nothing about larger boats. It's just I have a freind parting out a boat with the 1.91:1's so I can get them cheap.and someone stole one prop anyways so I have to buy one already. But It sounds much cheaper and easier to stick whth 1.1 thanks again for your help.
