Hooking up Batteries

Hi everyone, I am preparing my Trojan F32 for the up and coming boating season and have been checking over the wiring as I a new owner.
I hooked up the batteries and turned the Battery switch to #1 then #2 but had no power to the switches or motors. However there are two No 12 red wires lie beside the batteries, one is constant positive from the battery switch and the other goes to the terminal strip. When hooked together I have power and everything works. There is a 12W 30amp fuse which is not connected attached to the same board as the emergency start solenoid.
Do you think these two red wires should go through this 30amp fuse?
None of the wiring diagrams show the batteries, can anyone help??

battery cables to the emergency start solenoid would not run through a 30 amp fuse or breaker .There may be a breaker off the solenoid to power up another circuit . On my boat thats how the trim tabs got power

"When hooked together" means when both are connected to the same battery or what?

"Constant Positive FROM the Battery Switch"? Are you saying that is the ONLY wire to/from the battery and battery switch? If Yes: a) it needs to be hooked up and b) it seems light if its the only wire (#8 or larger would be ore appropriate).

"the other goes to the terminal strip." Under the console on the right? Ye s- that needs to be hooked up - but should go THROUGH the battery switch (where is it located?).

There should be a very heavy lead to your starter solenoid to the battery. There should be a 2nd heavy (not as heavy - #8 or so) from the battery to your battery switch. Then your fuse panels, etc. can run off of this.

Lost here - Paul had some good input - anyone else? I'd follow the wires and see where they go.
