440 Starter

Post by davidsmith »

Had to remove my port starter for repair, what a pain in the a####. Bottom bolt below engine stringer. Ended up removing exhaust manifold to gain access to starter. Finally got it out for repair and dreading trying to reinstall bottom bolt.

Been there done that. To get to mine, I have to wrap myself around the front of the engine. With the bolt barely hanging in between two fingers, I could get it in the hole but couldn't get the starter to sit in the right place for the bolt to catch a thread. I tried for 3 hours! Finally got someone to help. They got behind the starter and held it in place while I bolted it in from the front. Took 5 minutes!!
