Chrysler 360, 142deg T-Stat - where to find?
I have raw water cooling. Bought a couple of replacement T-Stats last fall but discovered later that they are 160deg... for use in closed cooling systems. I need 142deg for raw water.
I have been quoted $47 EACH for the 142deg versions through my marina parts shop (the 160deg cost me $15 each) ... anyone know of a reliable source for the 142's at a reasonable price? MarineManifold.com / MarineParts.com tell me they don't know if they can source them, and the Sierra 142 deg (for Mercruiser, Crusader, and other engines) is the wrong size.

Thermostats
I found they have 26 in stock at marinepartssource.com about $17.00
Now I have to check mine to see if mine are 142 degree or not. I am not having any problems with overheating but I replaced mine a few years back and I don't remember if I verified raw water versus fresh water T-stats.

Thanks for the references guys. I have seen them before, but was resisting buying American. Don't get me wrong - Hurrikain has them around that price as well... but for me it will be that price, + 'International' shipping, + Duty, + Customs Fee to get it across the border... I have to add up the numbers and compare it to local... but it will probably cost me an additional $20-$40 just to get them here. And if for any reason there is a problem with them, it will cost me another whack of dough to return them etc.
Just the same, I may have to go that route ... My alternative is my marina at $47.66 each, or these guys http://www.pridemarine.com/index.cfm?ca ... %203527765 which isn't much different. Man do we get hosed on the price of stuff up here!!!

Thx. I had planned on calling them tomorrow. They are usually expensive, but worth a shot. I normally only consider them for 'hard to find' parts - I didn't think a freaking thermostat would fall into that category!Big D wrote:Captain, I PMed you. Try http://www.anthonykeatsmarine.com/

I know what you mean. Please keep us posted on what you finally end up doing. Thinking I may want to get a spare set for my 440s. Chryslers had so many versions though that I really only want to deal with someone who knows what they're talking about when it comes to Chryslers. One wrong order can set back the savings you think you may be getting from someone who doesn't know the product.

Did you inquire with Beacon? I more recent, try to reserve mentioning other retailers here until we've exhausted locating parts through Bob here first...at least with similar products. It seems only fair to inquire with our host first...he should be able to locate a stat for you. Good luck in your search.

He brought up in an earlier post his concerns for shipping over the boarder Jamie. So I suggested someone here in Ontario. They are pretty close to him and very well known in the industry up here. He said he's going to do the math. May very well be that with all other charges that it's still cheaper to buy south of the boarder anyway. Let us know Captain.

Again, no disrespect intended, but for you Americans dealing with Beacon is price + $5 shipping. I applaud Beacon for what they are doing in trying to keep Trojans alive and their support of the forum (see - I am a contributor too!). But simply put, for Canadians, buying cross border just kills us ("Free Trade" - phooey)
For what it's worth, I did check the Beacon site. If I look under Trojan Parts / Chrysler Parts, I get a list of parts Catalogs available. Already have one. Doesn't help.
Sorry, but if it's a part I can get locally for a reasonable price, that's my first choice. If it is a specialty item, you know I will go to Beacon. I have been thinking of those SS Trojan letters for a while now (mine are pitted and the boat's just to pretty to have ugly letters on the transom...) and some window H channel to undo some stupidity on behalf of the previous owner(s). And if I ever trash the vent covers over the blower vents or flybridge fairing I will be going directly to Beacon without even considering to look elsewhere.
I don't think Beacon exists to sell spark plugs, wires, thermostats, and impellers. I think their objective is to sell real TROJAN parts. Stuff you can't get elsewhere, or stuff specific to the models. If I am off base, I encourage Beacon Bob to correct my misinterpretation.
[EDIT : and actually, just forwarded email to him re this thread/post to get his perspective and/or pricing]
