Antifreeze level
- I have fresh water cooled 318's, does anyone know the correct level of the antifreeze in the heat exchangers ? Cold it looks like the level is 1/2 or a little above half. i've never removed the caps while cold, started then let them come up to temp. ???

They should be full cold, when hot coolant should flow to the overflow and then back to the exchanger as they cool.............bottom line you should only check it cold and the heat exchanger should be full, just like a car radiator..........John

I do not have the overflow containers and mine are always 2/3 full when cold. However, after working on the system I fill it to the top and when it warms up it spits some out into the bilge, very messy, so I do not fill it to the top again but I do check it before a long run. If I can stick my finger in it and touch antifreeze/coolant then I am happy. I leave a couple diapers in the bilge just for that reason.
