50 ft 1969 Trojan/Shepherd

Hi there
i am new to this forum and trying to help a family member with his beautiful boat. It is a 1969 50 foot Trojan Shepherd. He was told years ago when he bought it that it was from Canada and only 10 made, would like to find out if this is true It is in great condition inside and out, engines and all Well taken care of. Also any idea as to the current value. If someone could please point us in the right direction and or any information you have would be helpful.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a real treasure there if indeed only ten were made.

I personally am not familiar with that model but someone here no doubt is. Can you post photos? That always helps.

From what I have heard Trojan bought Shepherd to Build the F series Hulls, without putting Trojan at risk if fiberglass didn't work out. Niagara on the Lake Canada

Other then the Tri cabins I belive most the F boats were made in PA. ( my F36 was)

As Geoff noted, I also recall something about the boats being built in Niagara On The Lake, Ontario Canada. Wine country out by Niagara Falls.

I am not sure how long the shepherd boat works lasted after the mid seventies

I LOVE it! Definitely Trojan (not sure how much Sheppard there is in it - I think they just borrowed the name because the design is 100% Trojan).

100% wooden boat by the looks of things - I can tell by the planked hull. I think the planked hull was more normal for the older Trojans, in most other models the '69 was a lapstrake hull. The design cues, lines, and mast are identical to my father's old '69 28' Sea Skiff.

Don't know how many were really created (Beacon Bob may know, or it may have been before his time). There is also a guy up here (in Canada, 'eh) who used to be a Trojan dealer (more specifically, I think he is 5th generation in the boating business, and his family owned a marina and was probably the biggest Trojan dealer in Ontario for decades) - if Beacon Bob can't help you, Doug Dawson might have some info - especially if it was built in NOTL http://www.boatingwithdawsons.com/

Hope Beacon Bob is okay with me posting Doug as a contact... he didn't build 'em, but his family sold a crap load (including the '79 I own). From a Canadian perspective, Dawson's played a huge role in Trojan being as popular around here as it was.
