Water Heater Location - F26

Post by randyp »

I tried this post before but only got 1-2 replies, so I'm gonna try again, hoping that the rest of you guys are as forgetful as me and maybe I'll get more replies...I'm replacing the old (and "original") 12 gal AC water heater on my '77 F 26. The current one requires a that I remove the exhause manifold off the single Chry 318 AND the holding tank before I can even get at the damned thing, which is tucked in near the starboard engine compartment bulkhead. I'm thinking about cutting the lines to the orig water heater and draining it. Then mount a new heater on the port side behind the existing water tank. Since the engine is raw water cooled I don't need a heat exchanger water heater (nor do I want one....just one more place for a leak...)So, what do you think. Go the easy route or tear the whole shooting match apart and replace in same location. What models should I look at?

Thanks

Hi Randy,

I don't know where the original water heaters were installed in these boats but when I added one to mine , I placed it directly behind the fresh water tank on the port side. There's a posting a little ways down the list titled Paul's beautiful boat that has a photo of the engine in which you can see the water tank.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Randy,
Some times you may post a question and it will not get answered. There is nothing ment by it, only that no one has a good answer for you at that moment. So you kind of have to wait for someone with a little more know how to give you a definitive answer.
There was another Trojan E26 in my marina, that had the hot-water heater under the seat next to the closet,. that set in the far back corner. I don’t have hot water in my Trojan, However after a long run the 30 gal of water next to the motor is kind of hot.
