engine room and below decks paint

Post by larryeddington »

I am almost ready to clean my below decks and engine room. What is recommended as best type of paint and color? I think most seem to be gray.

just used it and love it. Great stuff, really hard and appears to have great adhesion.

Bilgekote works really well, I painted mine years ago and it's held up really well and is very easy to work with. Though when I did mine I did use a high build undercoat from Petit, no peeling whatsoever

Prep is important. Clean, clean, clean then a light scuff. As for the paint, I agree with the above posts that Inertlux Bilgekote is the way to go.

Fortunately my bilge is nt oily or greasy it is on the hard and very dry. I will vacuum all loose crud (mostly old dirt dauber
Nests) pressure wash, de water and dry again. Easy in texas. Going to spray it with airless rig.

In addition to paint below decks I have used "Concrobium Mold Control" from Home Depot. This stuff seals and prevents any mould and mildew. Perfect for the marine plywood used on the hatches to the bilge.

Ditto on the Bilgecoat

I suggest WHITE as it will show up a tiny drip easily and makes it great to find a dropped fastener.

Is that fresh water or antifreeze?

The white makes it easier.

Also makes the ER brighter.

I have the concorbium from home depot already, I checked it out some time ago, surprising enough below decks does not seem to have any mold, but in the bath and living areas another story, not bad but some. Boat was buttoned up in 100 degree weather with some water left in bilge. All is dry now.
