f28 exhaust system

Post by larryeddington »

Making progress on rehab of my f28. Some exhaust questions;

The old mkII rubber mufflers I believe are shot as it appears inside baffles are gone. Is there an exact replacement?

I am thinking of ditching the cast iron elbows and y fittings and use flexible ones in place, good idea?

The through hull turn down exhaust port tip are shot I have one replacement for the port side. Would the flapper type be better, seems keeping the backwash out is a good idea?

Anyone know how quiet the Centek ones are? Once installed you are stuck with them if loud. I definitely will talk to Bob I have purchased a fair amount from Bob and John.

I have checked with bob regarding mufflers, does not have any of the old ones, does have new. He was surprised that my f28 has for mufflers instead of one for each engine.

What has been your experiences with number of mufflers for v8 engines?

I think the original setup was on two, one per engine. The wet exhaust hoses come from the manifold and connect in a Y before heading to the Muffler and out the through hull. At least this is what I have on my '79 F28 w original 318's.

f28 exhaust

Could you post a setup of your f28 exhaust setup. Mine is a 78 and original as well. Maybe they changed them from 78 to 79?

I imagine yours has 3 inch pipes into a four inch Y then out the back as four inch.
