Just a few questions for the experts...

Hi all...

So this will be our first summer of boating... Got the F25 last Aug and had nothing but issues... so rebuilt the carb, replaced the gas tank and full tune-up. Been out a few times this year on little excursions and has been OK... Looking forward for our first overnight...

Couple of questions, sorry for the ignorance but I'm looking to learn... Seeing as how we bought a place on a canal I think I'll be boating for a while...

1. How do i address a squeaky pulley? Can I just spray some silicone spray on the pulley?

2. After running for around an hour, and I turn it off, it won't start up right away, I feel I have to give her a couple of cranks and hold the starter for around 3 sec before it catches, is this normal?

3. Where is the fill for the steering? and for the transmission, I forgot to ask my mechanic when it was on the hard...

4. Where are the seacocks for this boat?


I think that's it for now... I've already learned a lot from the forums...

#2 are you saying the starter wont (catch) engage or turnover unless you hold in the starter for 3 seconds? or the engine wont run

#3 hydraulic steering is filled by removing the small cap on the top of the helm right behind the steering wheel. that is also where you check the fluid level.
transmission if its a velvet drive there is a screw in type dipstick (silver with a handle on the transmission. remove and check the fluid or add there.

4 seacocks follw the engine water hose to the bottom of the boat should be one there. if you have a ac unit there will also be one for the water pump, if you have a generator there sill be one ,dont know where these might be on a f25 cause i have a f32. head intake if using raw water also should have one.

i suggest if you have not crawled around and lifted and looked in each bilge compartment and nook and cranny of your boat i would. that way you will be able to have a real good idea of where stuff is and many questions might be answered

- I mean the the starter will engage but the engine won't catch right away, where as if I leave it sitting for a few days on the dock and go to start it, it fires up right away... I don't know it may be in my head, but just hate the idea of not being able to start on the water...

- I don't think it has hydraulic steering, as there's nothing behind the steering wheel other than a bunch of fuses... Thanks for the transmission check, Is there a preferred type of fluid I should be using in the velvet drive?

I 'll take a peek around the bilge and see where all the connections go to. No excuse for not doing that already...

You can buy a manual for your boat from Beacon Marine..... Trans., Dexron trans fluid.....steering, May be manual steering (chain and rods) mine is. ....Squeeky pully, if it's on the engine tighten the belt. Welcome toy the forum.
